I think art saves lives. Its what made me become an art teacher because I think of all the kids I've taught- I was a high school art teacher for a long time- kids who are really in a really sad, dark state in their mind and their hearts... [Art] makes us survive this crazy world.

"I've been doing artwork for a very long time so of course my inspirations changed over the years."

"Every so often, I do a big project that's one year in length... Those projects, because they're done everyday for a year, the inspiration changes daily... I plan to do something that is going to react to whatever has gone on that day in the world."

"As an environmental kind of artist, as soon as the gardening season comes upon us- we have a 1 acre yard so a lot of my artwork and energy to do art work goes into landscaping... I think of that as a 1 acre sized painting."

"Most artists I know think about the planet a lot, so we're kind of environmentalists at heart."

"I'm very connected with the art gallery-Its called The Two Rivers Art Gallery- and I believe in things like that a lot. So, over the years, I've been very connected with that place, and prior to COVID, I also teach, and I often teach at the art gallery."

In her free time, Maureen likes to go on walks and go kayaking. She also enjoys rafting and travelling.

In her art, Maureen tries to represent things that are going on around her. "Sometimes its very dark. Sometimes its kind of fun, like if I've been out paddling in my kayak, then I'm going to be thinking about water. If I'm in my kitchen cooking, my food might represent food that I'm preparing or where it comes from." Recently, Maureen has been drawing and painting anatomies of flowers, reproductive organs of flowers, and roots.
